Popis: The flora and fauna of Western Reef, a remote, wave‐swept rock platform located west of Point Somes, Rekohu (Chatham Island), is described. Eleven vascular plant species and one moss are recorded and the associations they form are described. There are no naturalised vascular plants present. The reef vegetation is dominated by the Chatham Island endemic button daisy (Leptinellafeatherstonii (Asteraceae)). A large population of Cook's scurvy grass (Lepidium oleraceum (Brassicaceae)) is also present. The reef harbours a large resident New Zealand fur seal colony (Arctocephalus forsteri) which, together with the low relief, exposed conditions, and frequency of storms, has left 80% of the reef free of vascular plant vegetation. Seals may account for the abundance of scurvy grass on the reef. A list of the vascular flora of the reef is appended.
