A study of the microstructural influence on the coercive field of polycrystalline MnZn-ferrites is presented. The coercive field, HC, is found to depend on the grain size D as HC α D-1. This dependence can be accounted for by assuming a grain boundary with unit permeability, which also accounts for the influence of the grain size on the initial permeability of the same MnZn-ferrites. The influence of this grain boundary may explain why HC exceeds the magneto-crystalline anisotropy field Hk by an order of magnitude for some of the ferrites studied. |
