Quantitative comparison between noise reduction factors of drainage asphalt pavement

Popis: In this report, we analyze the noise reduction observed in low noise drainage asphalt pavement. Earlier results have indicated overall noise reductions of 3–5 dB, but there has been some discrepancy as to whether this improvement is due to the higher absorption coefficient of the new asphalt or to a reduction in airflow noise through the treads. In this paper, we report a quantitative comparison of all the major noise reduction factors. We conclude that the major noise reduction is due to the higher absorption coefficients of new asphalts.
