Popis: This paper investigates an innovative method of estimating the NOx and engine-out particulate quantities produced during each combustion event in a high speed, direct injection diesel engines. A computation scheme has been formulated which accepts measured diesel engine in-cylinder pressure-volume data as input data and uses this to estimate the NOx and soot pollutant quantities formed during each engine cycle. The methodology uses models, which are based on fundamental principles of thermodynamics and chemistry of pollutant formation, but combine these with empirical parameters derived from experimental data to formulate a method of estimating absolute pollutant levels. Steady-state engine tests were carried out on light and heavy-duty common-rail diesel engines over a wide range of those engine parameters known to affect NOx and soot emissions. Parameters varied included engine speed, equivalence ratio, exhaust gas re-circulation, fuel injection pressure, start and duration of fuel injection, and water ...
