Popis: | Jesus-of-history research is at present undergoing something of a renaissance. New approaches are being entertained, new sources utilized, new hypotheses put forward, and, to be sure, more new books are written and published than ever before in the scholarly history of the subject. The phase, dating from the beginning of 1980s, has often received the label the aThird Questo (for the historical Jesus). The characterization derives from a delineation which discerns two previous phases, traditionally named adie Leben-Jesu-Forschungo (which covered the period up to the beginning of the 20th century; hereafter referred to as the Old Quest) and adie neue Frageo or athe New Questo (from 1950 onwards). The vigor of the past twenty years of research is also illustrated in the fact that a number of studies dealing with the history of research of the aThird Questo have already been made available. There has, however, also been voices of doubt as to the justi®cation of giving the present phase of research a unifying designation. For many people it is impossible to see any distinguishable shape or any common characteristics in the multitude of the new research on Jesus. On the contrary, they argue, current scholarship is a mixture of highly diverse trends. Those prone to let the recent Jesus research merit the label the aThird Questo have usually referred to three common features shared by the diverse scholarly enterprises |
