Popis: Individuals with social anxiety (SA) are initially vigilant of threatening stimuli (emotional faces, eyes) and then avoidant (Reichenberger et al., 2020). However, those with depression are only avoidant of this stimulus (Alghowinem et al., 2013). Co-morbid depression has been found to alter vigilance behaviour in SA, but research has only used emotional faces (LeMoult and Joormann, 2012). The present studies focus on eye-contact will enable further understanding of comorbid depression’s effect on SA vigilance-avoidance. This would inform the handling of co-morbid depression in vigilance-avoidance treatment, something particularly important to negate the impact of abnormal eye-contact behaviour on quality of life.
