The enterprise seeking to improve through Business Process Reengineering, needs to first understand its own structures and processes and how they affect each other. It seeks to eliminate non-value adding processes and streamline or change core processes. As a tool for understanding structure and processes, and their effects on each others, we employ Enterprise Modeling technology to model the enterprise and conduct analysis on the model to obtain answers on what-if scenarios. Instead of discarding the model after the analysis, we advocate that it be converted into an operation model (also called an enactment model) to act as a tool for executing the new system. Furthermore, this operation model can collect new operational data for future analysis and evaluation of the new system. We discuss our motivations and the research objectives in detail, share some of the results obtained so far, and explain our intended direction of future research. |
