Popis: Health and illness are an inherent part of everyday life. A closer look at these phenomena, however, would show them to be complex. We might ask ourselves such questions as: What do health and illness mean to people? Is there anything at all we can do to stay healthy? How do you know if you are ill? What are the consequences of being ill? And: Can you do anything to regain health? We expect adults to be able to handle their health and illness episodes; we expect them to notice relevant symptoms and, at the same time, we expect them not to mention every little ache and pain. If they believe something is wrong, they are expected to seek appropriate help. If you are ill you expect certain things of the people you live with, and they expect you to try to become healthy again. Put briefly, in the course of life, people must learn to handle complex phenomena such as health and illness. We can call this a developmental task.
