Magnetic EXAFS are studied using circularly polarized synchrotron radiation in the energy range of 6000–9000eV at the L-edges of pure Gd metal, the L 2,3 -edges of Eu in Eu 3 Fe 5 O 12 and the K-edges of Fe, Co and Ni metal. On the basis of a two-step model the dichroic absorption effects are described in terms of an additive contribution to the backscattering amplitude caused by the exchange interaction, which is directly correlated to the spin-moment of the neighboring atom. The damped low-frequent background found in the dichroic L 2,3 -spectra of Gd and Tb metal is interpreted as an atomic x-ray fine structure of strong magnetic character. |
