Popis: | Atmospheric pollution aspects in mining are analyzed. Two types of environment have been selected for study: an open pit mining site and a quarry. In order to obtain a preliminary evaluation of the air quality in these environments, a sampling program was developed for each area. Three basic points were studied: 1. Concentration of total suspended particulate; 2. Chemical and 3. Physical characterization of the particulate matter. The concentrations of total suspended particulate (TSP) were obtained by the use of the high volume sampler method. The analytic techniques applied to the particulate matter were X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) for chemical characterization, and Low Angle Laser Light Scattering (LALLS) for physical characterization. Physical characterization involved particle size distribution of the suspended particulate matter, whereas the chemical characterization involved determination of its composition. |
