The absorption of gaseous dinitrogen pentoxide in the 8.1 and 5.7 μm spectral regions

Popis: The absorption of gaseous dinitrogen pentoxide in the 8.1 and 5.7 μm spectral regions has been measured in the laboratory with a fast-scanning Fourier-transform spectrometer. Great care has been taken to produce as pure as possible N 2 O 5 samples and, for this purpose, a flowing system has been designed. The amount of impurities such as NO 2 and HNO 3 in the cell has been evaluated from the measurement of their absorptions and the results have been used to determine the partial pressure of N 2 O 5 . Finally the total intensities of the N 2 O 5 bands located at 8.1 and 5.7 μm have been obtained: I N 2 O 5 (8.1 μm) = 1508 ± 100 cm −1 atm cm and I N 2 O 5 (5.7 μm) = 3580 ± 167 cm −1 atm cm at 296 K.
