Popis:	There has been a considerable amount of interest in the potential for commercial production of β-carotene from the extremely halophilic green alga Dunaliella salina (Chlorophyta, Volvocales), and trial operations have been set up in the USSR (Masyuk, 1966; Masyuk & Abdula, 1969) and in Israel (Ben-Amotz & Avron, 1980). There is a commercial operation in California, USA, and incipient commercial operations in Australia and possibly elsewhere.
