Popis: | Experiments are described in which positive streamers propagate within a uniform field region having an applied electric field greater than the minimum value needed to cause streamers to bridge the interelectrode gap. Under these conditions exponential intensification of the streamer system is observed, accompanied by negative charge deposition along the channels. These results are shown to be a direct consequence of energy and charge conservation for the streamer system when individual streamers are treated as isolated propagating space charge pulses. The formation of a stepped leader via this process is discussed. |
