Popis: The plants sense different signals, such as herbivore and pathogen attack, and pass on this information throughout the plant body, which activates defense responses in undamaged parts. Recent studies have thrown new insights on the functional properties of some members of the GLR gene family of different plants along with model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana (L.). The ion channels of the GLR family function as sensors and convert this signal into intracellular concentration of calcium ions, which disperse into different organs and create defense responses. The specific induction of transcription factors, phosphatase/kinase, and elicitor-responsive genes advocates that the glutamate may efficiently amplify its signal and communicate with other signaling pathways to regulate metabolism, growth, development, and plant-based response. The role of glutamate receptors in plants is manifold and the present information contends for them as an imperative component in plant signal transduction. The more we are going to learn about these basic and essential components of signal transduction, the more we can understand this fundamental signaling pathway not just in plants but in all species that use a network. Nevertheless, detailed research work will be required to provide more in depth insights into their molecular modulations and the dynamics of interactions in which GLRs are the main players in future endeavors.
