Popis: This Monograph is derived from a paper presented at a Conference on Pluralism, Politics and God at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. The monograph investigates the extent to which world religions not only demand an answer, but also prompt a response, to the problem of human suffering. Both medical science and religion share the same goal: namely, to minimize or ameliorate suffering. In this new Age of Biotechnology, it remains for law to be more aware of the nature and consequences of the scientific and technological advances of this Age and to the dilemmas which arise there from in order to provide sufficient oversight and regulation of those uses through regulatory, statutory, judicial and ethical directives. If any positive, institutional responses to the countless dilemmas which arise today are to be made, law, science, medicine, and religion need to be partners in the total decision-making process.
