Nondaily smokers have substantial risk of experiencing tobacco-related cancer, respiratory, and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, yet are less likely to pay attention to general messages encouraging them to quit smoking. In this study, we will 1) develop messages specifically designed to be relevant to nondaily smokers, 2) refine the messages with input from nondaily smokers, and 3) test which messages elements are most important and whether the messages increase risk perceptions and intentions to quit smoking. The ultimate goal of the study is to optimize messages for nondaily smokers to be used in future interventions to increase smoking cessation treatment enrollment and quitting for nondaily smokers. |
