Results are described of X-ray and electron microscope studies of structural changes in a tetrafluorethylene-ethylene copolymer under the effect of γ-radiation, according to the dose and temperature of irradiation. It was found that in a copolymer irradiated at 150 and 250° crystallite dimensions increase irreversibly, whereas heating without irradiation is accompanied by a reversible increase. An irreversible increase in the dimensions of crystallites is apparently due to processes of crosslinking in the copolymer in γ-radiation which result in fixing the structure organized at high temperature, i.e. in radiation annealing. |
