Popis: This chapter features an ethical and progressive approach to international education at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, in which the IB curriculum is delivered in Kiswahili and English. The drive for internationalisation and accompanying increase in English-language education has been widely detrimental to the development of local languages in education in many areas. English is seen as the priority language, and the delivery of international education in English reinforces this paradigm. The Aga Khan Academies have as mandate the equal development of a national language and of English, thus supporting both the local and the global. This innovative approach is meant to uphold the status of both languages and to create leaders who are a part of their culture, rather than outside it.
