This chapter focuses on prevention within the context of a public/population health (PPH) model for addressing disruptive behavior problems/disorders in children. We frame PPH models with a dynamic systems theory, highlighting the nuanced, integrated, and reciprocal nature of key social determinants and microlevel factors in the development and attenuation of disruptive behavior problems/disorders. The chapter highlights key broad social determinants of mental health, which also relate to the development of disruptive behavior problems. The chapter concludes with a discussion of several policies and multi-tiered prevention interventions that form the basis of a PPH model. Select future directions for this work are offered. |
