The potential benefits of arthroscopic retrograde femoral nailing versus standard arthrotomy include early recovery as well as advantages related to direct visualization, such as the ability to treat concomitant intra-articular pathologies, remove intra-articular loose bodies and debris, and avoid or reduce the negative effects of ionizing radiation during fluoroscopic examination after nail insertion. Development of compartment syndrome should be avoided by maintaining the arthroscopic pressure below 50 mmHg. Arthroscopic retrograde femoral nailing is a safe technique for treating femoral fractures, especially in patients with concomitant intra-articular injuries. |
