A comparative kinetic study has been made of the photoreduction of additions of ferric chloride and tetraethyl ammonium tetrachloroferrate in solid PMMA at 77 and 293 K under the action of light with λ =313, 365 and 390 nm. It is shown that the quantum yields distributions of the processes are related to the kinetic nonequivalence the polymer. Interaction of radicals with Fe 2+ at low temperatures leads to the regeneration of FeCl − 4 . The kinetic parameters of this process have been determined. When the additive is eliminated at 77°K, only 30–40% of the total amount of radical products can be recorded. The nonrecorded radicals were detected through their ability to regenerate the initial FeCl − 4 form when the sample temperature is raised. The discrepancy between the observed and the true radical concentrations is accounted for and explained by the magnetic interaction between radicals and paramagnetic ions situated close to these radicals. |
