The concentration of plutonium has been determined in several bone samples from the skeleton of an individual who had received this element by intravenous injection in 1945. The analyses were based on measurements of uranium L x rays with a large xenon-filled proportional counter. The results have been confirmed by radiochemical analysis. The presence of $sup 241$Am in the samples has been established. The plutonium content of the skeleton estimated from these measurements is consistent with the values obtained from measurements of the microdistributions on bone surfaces. (auth) |
