Popis: The quincentenary of the birth of Martin Luther, November 10, 1483, is an occasion for conferences, publications, and commemorations in Lutheran countries and elsewhere. Although the focus is generally on the religious reforms inaugurated by the German theologian, attention is also being given to his impact on such areas as political thought and education. While much scholarly activity has been going on, the celebrations have not been free from exaggeration, as in the case of the honors heaped upon Luther's "views on freedom of religion." What is appropriate for analysis at this time is Luther's thinking and activities in education in Germany, as well as their influence in that and other countries. Some writers have regarded Luther as an educator of supreme stature.
