Popis: | In a previous investigation the absorption spectra of solutions in carbon tetrachloride of chlorine, bromine and iodine and some interhalogen compounds were studied. The solvent was selected on account of its high transparency to wave-lengths longer than 260 μμ and its stability towards the various solutes used. The inertness of the medium facilitated a general survey of the absorptive properties of solutions of the halogens under the simplest conditions. Preliminary studies using other solvents soon showed, however, that the interest of the subject was far from exhausted; in this communication the properties of one of the interhalogen compounds, namely, iodine monochloride, are described in greater detail. |
