Popis: An apparatus is described which was designed for the study of internal friction phenomena in steels. Oscillations are electrostatically excited in a cylindrical specimen with a resonant frequency of about 33 kHz. The gap between the specimen and electrode is servo-controlled. The apparatus generates a signal proportional to the value of the sample damping, making it possible to record curves of 1/Q as a function of temperature.
