Parallel plate avalanche counters have been designed and used for localization of relativistic heavy ions. They have been tested alpha particles from a 241Am source. They have been used with the heavy-ion beams from Saturne in conjunction with the 4π detector Diogene. They provide an accurate measurement of the vertex position with eficiency. |
