Popis: | The effect of the deposition of caesium overlayers on (111)A and (111)B epitaxial p-type CdTe has been studied in order to assess the potential of such material for use in NEA photoemission devices. It was found that, although clean CdTe surfaces with a Cd/Te ratio appropriate to the crystal face could be readily obtained, their work-function was much lower than that reported by Swank (1967) for a cleaved n-type (110) surface and was below the value of the first ionisation potential for caesium. As a result, it was not possible to form a dipole layer on the surface by the deposition of caesium and hence the minimum work-function achievable was that of bulk caesium. |
