Popis:	We discuss the conditions under which a high‐entropy pair jet or fireball can result from the violent merger of compact binaries consisting of a neutron star and another neutron star or a black hole. We estimate the wind mass‐loss, and consider scenarios in which the pair‐photon plasma produced by νν annihilation can attain highly relativistic expansion velocities, resulting in gamma‐ray emission of sufficient energy to be observable at cosmological distances.
