Popis: Slop is a term to describe liquids found during petroleum extraction which contain a water, suspended solids and organic material. These liquids are difficult to handle because they are not suitable for refining yet difficult to dispose of. Many methods to separate the oil content in slops from the basic sediment and water (BSW) have been developed and tested (chemical, centrifugation, additives) with limited economic success. This work describes the application of power ultrasound radiation to accelerate the separation process. We found that chopped radiation with a moderate ultrasonic power is effective.
