Popis: | Abstract: Multiple myeloma (MM) is defined as cancer of the plasma cells that is characterized by the production of abnormal immunoglobulin. It most commonly presents in people over 65 years of age, with a higher prevalence in men. People with MM can present with bone pain, renal failure, anaemia, thrombocytopenia and neutropenia, which can arise from the condition itself or from its treatment. A large proportion will be treated with intravenous bisphosphonates, therefore putting them at an increased risk of developing medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). This paper aims to provide guidance on the oral and dental management of people with multiple myeloma. CPD/Clinical Relevance: To provide an update to dental care providers on the oral and dental management of people with multiple myeloma and provide a guide on what factors to consider when deciding on the most appropriate setting for the provision of their dental care. |
