Popis: | A computerized PubMed search of MEDLINE 1966–February 2006 was performed. The terms “CPAP” (continuous positive airway pressure) and “randomized clinical trial” were exploded and the resulting articles were cross-referenced, yielding 322 trials. These articles were then reviewed to identify those that met the following inclusion criteria: 1) patient population with obstructive sleep apnea of all severity levels, 2) intervention with CPAP for at least 1 month, and 3) used a realistic placebo methodology (subtherapeutic or sham CPAP [1, 2, 3]). All outcomes were examined. Articles in which a pill was used as the placebo were excluded [4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. The bibliographies of the articles that met these inclusion criteria were manually checked to ensure no further relevant articles could be identified. This process yielded three articles. |
