Popis: The recurrent artery of Heubner was studied in 60 human brains (120 hemispheres). In 50 of them a dissection was done in fresh specimens 12 hours post-mortem, under microscopic magnification and, in 10 brains after injection of contrast (Batsons substance). The Heubner artery was present in all of the studied hemispheres. lt originated bilaterally from the ACA at the level of the ACoA bilaterally in 31,7% of the brains. Double origin was found in 11 occasions (7 in left hemisphere and 4 in right). Its mean outer diameter was 0.61mm with a variation of 0.20mm to 1.80mm, and before penetrating the anterior perforated substance it divided into 2 or more branches in 90.85% of hemispheres. lIt had an extracerebral course, anterior or superior to the A1 segment in 92.5% of the studied cases. These anatomical data are correlated with surgical planning in the approach for the anterior circle of Willis pathology.
