Popis: Despite the several developed and published researches, the noise suppression or attenuation still remains an important subject of study. The main goal of a filtering process of an ECG signal is to minimize, as much as possible, the interference levels and, simultaneously, avoid the occurrences of distortions concerning the different waveforms. The prevention of distortions, as a characteristic of an efficient filtering process, is vitally important considering the nature of the ECG signal and the serious damage resulting from an incorrectly performed diagnosis. Among the various applied methods, it can be demonstrated that the choice of method used is intrinsically connected with the final objective of the ECG processing algorithm. Therefore in this chapter, we investigate the impact of different classes of filtering processes over the temporal analysis and segmentation of ECG characteristic waves. The discussion covers three specific ECG preprocessing applications: baseline wander suppression and lower-frequency cut-off, line frequency rejection, and muscle artifact reduction.
