Popis: | Critical micelle concentrations (CMC) of dodecylammonium acetate, propionate, butyrate, caprylate, caprate, and laurate were determined from spectral changes based on the solubilization of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ). When TCNQ was solubilized in non-aqueous solutions of these surfactants above the CMC, the absorption bands based on an interaction between surfactants and TCNQ appeared at about 233, 272, and 415 nm. Below the CMC, only a small absorption band for the neutral TCNQ molecule was observed at 396 nm, and the intensity of this band decreased with the surfactant concentration. When the CMC values obtained by this method were plotted against the carbon number of the carboxylate counterion of the surfactant molecule, the CMC values were found to increase linearly with carbon number. |
