Popis: | Melioidosis is a bacterial infection caused by gram negative bacilli called Burkholderia pseudomallei. Melioidosis usually affects people with underling predisposing conditions, mostly diabetes mellitus. Many organs can be infected including the lungs, visceral organs, musculoskeleton and central nervous system. Clinical patterns vary and radiological findings are not specific. The most frequent radiographic finding is single or multiple abscess formation in almost all organs. Definite diagnosis cannot be made from imaging but awareness of these radiographic manifestations in multi-organ can lead to more early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. |
