Papaya is a tropical fruit with great appreciation by the population, for the production of seedlings, the substrates appear as of great importance for the development, providing a seedling in the pattern desired by the producers. The objective was to evaluate the effect of organic substrates on the emergence and development of papaya seedlings cv Formosa “mel”. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with five treatments and four replications. Fifty seeds were used per replication. The treatments used were coconut husk powder, fern substrate, peat, crushed pine bark and carbonized rice husk. Thirty days after emergence, the percentage of emergence, emergence speed index and average emergence time were evaluated. Sixty days after emergence of the first seedling, the following variables were evaluated: number of leaves; collector diameter; root length; shoot height; green and dry mass of leaves; green and dry mass of roots. The substrate consisting of fern residue showed the best results for emergence and initial development of CV papaya seedlings. Formosa "honey". |
