Popis: In the 30 years since the earliest photographic studies of snow leopards were undertaken, camera trapping technology and analytical methods have advanced at a rapid pace. This has enabled researchers and conservationists to monitor threats to high-priority populations in real time, explore previously intractable lines of inquiry with relative ease and improve our understanding of the species. The promise and appeal of camera trapping continues to grow along with the emerging potential of modern analytical methods to provide a greater level of scientific rigor and ecological relevance in snow leopard research, combined with innovations and improvements in data management and collection technology. Nevertheless, successful camera trapping for research and monitoring requires careful forethought regarding study design, analytical approach, technology selection, and data management. Thus snow leopard research and monitoring efforts are well served by a foundational understanding of the benefits, limitations, and future directions of study design and camera trap technology.
