Popis: Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) is effective in the majority of carefully selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea. The operation is also extremely successful in reducing or eliminating snoring. The UPPP has resulted in greater than 50% reduction of the apnea/hypopnea index in approximately 70% of the patients in the author's series. Reduction or elimination of snoring was reported by 87% of the patients. A standardized surgical technique is important in order to maximize the benefits and minimize the possibility of complications. This article describes a detailed step-by-step technique of the UPPP. Commonly encountered technical problems and suggestions for their solution are discussed.
