Dynamics of lipid peroxidation products in exhaled breath condensate in asthmatics in response to dosed physical exercise

Popis: Background: We have shown that asthmatics have a higher level of hydrogen peroxide and lipid hydroperoxides production in response to cold bronchial challenge, that may be associated with the airway response to osmotic stimulus. Aim: To study the dynamics of lipid peroxidation (LP) products in the exhaled breath condensate (EBC) in asthmatics in response to dosed physical exercise (DPE). Methods: 36 patients (14 men, 22 women) were studied upon the lung function (FEV 1 ), airway response (ΔFEV 1 ) and the contents of LP in EBC before and after 6-minute DPE at the treadmill at submaximal heart rate. The contents of conjugated diens and triens (ketodiens) in EBC were studied by ultraviolet specters on spectrophotometer Unico 2804 by two-beam scheme. The content of diene conjugates were expressed in the units of optical density at 233 nm, and ketodiens at 278 nm. The peak of absorption of unoxidized lipids was at 206 nm. To calculate the oxygenation of lipids by initial and secondary LP products, the ratios of E233/E206 and of E278/E206 were used respectively. Results: Baseline FEV 1 was 92.8±3.04%, ΔFEV 1 -3.5±0.7%. The level of E206 decreased after stress test from 0.22 (0.15;0.25) till 0.17 (0.11;0.24), the level of E233 from 0.05 (0.04;0.06) till 0.04 (0.03; 0.05; p Conclusion: The patients with asthma had the changes in LP in response to dosed physical exercise.
