Popis: | A composite titanium diboride coating has been deposited on AISI 1010 steel using a pulse electrode surfacing (PES) technique. Such a boride coating processed by the PES process is ultrafine grained, hard, tough, and free from cracks. An attempt has been made to evaluate the elastic modulus of the composite boride coating using the nanoindentation technique. The experimental elastic modulus of the coating was found to be 347 GPa. The computed elastic modulus value (318·4 GPa) is lower than the experimental elastic modulus (347 GPa) as the latter includes the effect of metastable phase formation such as FexBy and TiaBb in minor amounts. |
