Popis: | Structural changes in the lungs elicit changes in pulmonary function. In most diffuse lung diseases, respiratory symptoms generally develop insidiously because of alterations of the elastic and/or the flow-resistive properties of the lungs. These symptoms occur concurrently with disturbances of gas exchange. Most of the time, the physiologic alterations occur concomitantly with radiologic changes, but in some cases, symptoms and physiologic disturbances may be present without evidence of radiologic alterations. Thus physiological assessment is necessary in the diagnostic evaluation and also in the management, evolution, and response to therapy of patients with diffuse lung diseases. |
