This chapter relocates the overall psycho-social history of Turkey-Iran neighborhood relations onto the theoretical ground of emotional diplomacy and affective politics of partnership and rivalry. Both critical and comparative purposes are pursued analytically. The chapter’s first part provides overall findings reached by this long duree study of a relational case. The psycho-historical summary delineates cross-episodic threads in Turkey-Iran international neighborhood. Building on these critical and comparative observations, the second part provides further conceptual insights and makes a more generalizable theoretical contribution to the literature on international emotional-affective phenomena. Along these lines, I present theoretical interventions and offer a tentative proposal for further research in comparative case studies. By way of conclusion, I recommend building of more holistic meta-theoretical frameworks to reconceptualize the categorical nexus of narrativity, emotionality, affectivity, normativity and relationality. |
