The Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) based 3D Printers are widely used for Rapid prototyping. The process parameters of such printers include Model Material Density, Model Orientation & Support Material style. These parameters have significant influence on the mechanical & tribological properties of the 3D printed components. The present work involves 3D printing the ASTM type 5 specimensunder varying model material density, support material style & orientation. The combinations of these process parameters are designed using L9 orthogonal array. The 3D printed specimens are subjected to tensile test & the average surface roughness of each specimen is presented. The obtained results are further analyzed using ANOVA & optimized using Taguchi Technique. Further the surface morphology of the fractured specimens is studied using the scanning electron microscope and few sample images are presented. The obtained results indicate the orientation of specimen have higher significant influence compared to model material density. |
