Popis: Summary The author describes a characteristic habitus in newborn infants of diabetic mothers.1 The physiognomy is particularly striking and merits the designation tomato face, thus resembling that encountered in Cushing's syndrome. A tabulation of data from the literature, particularly Hultquist's investigations, shows that changes in the anterior lobe of the hypophysis and in the suprarenal glands, resembling those observed in Cushing's syndrome, occur in foetuses of experimental animals with diabetes and in infants of diabetic mothers. The observation is thus evidence of the conception that endocrine disturbances are of decisive significance for the development of those special features which characterize newborn infants of diabetic mothers.
