Popis: | Subjects were able to estimate with relative accuracy the durations of sleep intervals made up predominantly of EEG stage 1-REM but not of delta. Successful estimation required recall of a stimulus marking the beginning of an interval, but did not depend on time awake or on the EEG stage just prior to awakening. These results are consistent with the proposition that the passage of time is registered as part of the ongoing mentation of REM sleep. Correlation of time estimates with elapsed time for REM periods but not for delta periods makes comparison of the mean time estimates for these two conditions equivocal. |
