Communication and data transfer networks of vessel traffic management systems (CDTN VTMS) are one of key components of the navigation safety. They are based primarily on radio relay lines. However, the spatio-temporal structure of the electromagnetic field acquires multipath features above the ocean surface due to the transmission of electromagnetic microwaves, which leads to fading and intersymbol interference (ISI) effects adversely affecting quality of data being transmitted. This results in impaired navigation services to ships and lower safety of navigation. The weaknesses of radio relay links above the ocean surface make it necessary to search for new methods to transmit information in CDTN VTMS and are a topical issue. This paper addresses use of WiMAX and Wi-Fi telecommunication technologies for information support to international navigation, and the potential for their use in Russian CDTN VTMS. The paper discusses use of WANFleX wireless broadband access (WBA) technology in CDTN VTMS as an alternative to satellite and radio relay communication links. An innovative aspect of such approach is that the WANFleX solution for WBA was never used previously for CDTN VTMS in Russia. The subject of study is CDTN VTMS. |
