Popis: Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a life support technique used to provide pulmonary and or circulatory support in the face of severe cardio-pulmonary failure. 1 The technique shares a common ancestry with perioperative cardiopulmonary bypass. It is more invasive than conventional life support techniques and therefore is only used in situations where the patient has a potentially reversible condition and other more conventional means of support have failed (or are inappropriate).
