Popis: | In 2009, archaeological work was requested by Tucson Water to determine if significant archaeological resources are present within the proposed alignment of a planned collector pipeline at the Sweetwater Wastewater Reclamation Facility (SRF), (City Project No. 08-35). The City of Tucson is the sponsor and the landowner of the project area. The planned pipeline alignment crosses the boundaries of two known archaeological sites, Los Pozos, AZ AA:12:91 (ASM), and Wetlands, AZ AA:12:90 (ASM), both dating predominantly to the Early Agricultural period (1200 B.C.-A.D. 50). Phase 1 and 2 archaeological data recovery were conducted under Arizona Antiquities Act Project Specific Permit No. 2009-107ps (ASM Accession No. 2009-383) and Burial Agreement Case No. 2009-26, by Desert Archaeology, Inc., personnel in June-July 2009, and December 2009-February 2010. The work was guided by the phased project treatment plan (Wocherl 2009a), supplemented by a task plan following Phase 1 (Wocherl 2009b). This volume contains an introduction to the project, as well as descriptive data for excavated features and materials collected during Phase 1 and 2 archaeological data recovery for the Tucson Water SRF Collector Pipeline project at the Wetlands and Los Pozos sites. These data will be discussed further and interpreted in a synthetic companion volume (Wocherl 2012) that also treats features and materials recovered for the adjacent Tucson Water Recharge Basins and Recovery Well project (ASM Accession No. 2010-108) at Los Pozos. The investigated project area represents a narrow linear corridor trending roughly north-south from well EW-008 to the southern boundary. City project construction limits vary from 60-100 ft wide. |
