Popis: Balloon dilation has been performed in 19 patients with postoperative stricture of the upper digestive tract experienced at the department from 1987 to 1991, and the effects of the procedure was evaluated. Under endoscopy a guide wire was passed through the stenosis and then a balloon catherter was indwelt. Under fluoroscopy the balloon was filled with a contrast medium and the dilation was maintained for 15 minutes. This procedure was repeated 2 times. In severe cases, balloon dilation was performed after the dilation by Celestin dilator. In most cases this balloon dilation repeated 1 to 3 times resulted in successful dilation without any significant complications. This method is an easy, safe and effective procedure to patients. It is concluded that balloon dilation should be performed as the first choice remedy for the management of postoperative stricutre of the upper digestive tract.
