The officially designated curriculum syllabus of each country, considered a reflection of national policies of education, is a valuable source for studying policies. As globalization continues to draw the world closer, curriculum syllabi in the Asian-Pacific region have been adapted to changing curricular demands. At the same time, the importance of music assessment in international circles finds itself increasingly reflected in the music curriculum guidelines/standards in countries of the region. This chapter explores assessment policies addressed in music curriculum syllabi in China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. It begins with a brief introduction of the educational context and music curriculum of each country/district, followed by a review of its policy of music assessment. The chapter closes with a general discussion of commonalities, challenges, and trends and issues regarding music assessment from an Asian perspective. |
